Mexico Medical Tourism and Bariatrics

Medical tourism in Mexico and bariatrics (weight loss) surgery with Dr. Aceves and team is the group you will want to check out for you and your loved one.  In conjunction with Pulse Protocol, you will be hard pressed to find a better solution for your weight loss needs. Pulse Protocol offers a medical tourism platform that coordinates travel plans with top surgeons, state of the art facilities and affordable prices. That is tough to beat!  Dr. Aceves has recently teamed up with Pulse Protocol to provide a streamlined process of surgery and travel vacation to Mexico with Pulse clients.

This August I had the opportunity to meet Dr. Aceves’s team through Angelica (Coordinator) and Francisco (MD Assistant/patient) of Dr. Aceves’s Team at the Puerta de Hierro Hospital in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico.  I was escorted on a tour from their beautiful front lobby through their offices, the hospital and private patient rooms.  We toured the offices and the hospital as they thoroughly answered questions I had and that I knew you as a potential client might have.  As a retired Nurse Practitioner, FNP, and surgical/operating room RN, they allowed me to meet with patients that were happy with and recovering nicely from their surgery from the day before.

Dr. Fernando Aceves

Dr. Aceves and team has been at Puerta de Hierro Hospital for the past 15 years.  He is board certified in bariatrics.  Dr. Aceves is one of the top bariatric surgeons in Mexico. He has performed well over 1,000 bariatric bypass surgeries, 1,500 gastric sleeve surgeries, numerous revisions, as well as trained other physicians.

The Team

There are several things that impress me with his team.  What may have impressed me most is the team includes a psychiatrist, a cardiologist and a nutritionist within the offices…and all within the hospital.  Wherever you are in the process; pre-surgery through post-surgery, you will have the team near to answer questions, assist you and to take care of you after surgery. Angelica explains that surgeries are performed Monday thru Wednesday with patients staying in the hospital 2 days.  The entire team is on campus and available Monday through Friday to address any issues that may arise.  This is truly comprehensive care!

Revisions

Dr. Aceves has performed many revisions on patients.  Surgery can vary in the amount of time needed depending on the patient’s situation.  However, if a patient has had one of these surgeries from another doctor and needs a revision, then Pulse Protocol and their team of facilitators and coordinators will get you set up and into consultation with Dr. Aceves.

Recover and Relax

Possibly you will be able to take advantage of some vacation time in Mexico to recover and relax poolside for a week or more.  Whether you can spend time in Mexico or need to get back home, the team will be able to tell you all about travel times, your nutritional needs and when and how you can get back into an exercise program.

When you are back home, you will be in communication with the team for as long as you want to stay in touch and communicate to update them and get more information.

Bariatric Bypass Surgery

Bariatric bypass surgery, in short, bypasses the original stomach with redirection of the intestines. Gastric bypass is for morbidly obese patients with a higher BMI. You can expect surgery to be 90 minutes with a 2 day hospital stay.

Gastric Sleeve Surgery

Gastric sleeve or sleeve gastrectomy, while providing the same results, is a bit of a different animal.  Gastric sleeve surgery is creating a smaller stomach area by the removal of 85% of the stomach. This reduces the amount of food ingested, but retains the absorption of nutrients.

You can expect surgery to be 45 minutes with a 2 day hospital stay.

The team will be able to tell you the full process, how many days you’ll be in the hospital, when you can travel home, changes in weight and diet, and when you can resume normal activities.  You’ll have your full agenda along with communication with the nutritionist.

What are Stem Cells

Asking the question, what are stem cells, well, it’s a little complicated, as they are only the cells that determine you from birth.  However, in short, stem cells are young cells.  And, they have been somewhat controversial.

Medical Tourism in Mexico and Plastic Surgery

Medical tourism in Mexico and plastic surgery have been around for a few decades now, is by no means on the decline.  In fact, neither of Canada’s health system nor the United States health system are slowing any of that momentum for medical tourism surgery and procedures in Mexico.

This guidebook, Medical Tourism in Mexico, was created for anyone considering cosmetic surgery in Mexico. In November and December of 2020, I had two cosmetic procedures in Guadalajara. As a retired American nurse practitioner and nurse with 26 years of experience, I have worked in surgery for nearly 20 years. Let me take the guesswork out of choosing a doctor and destination for your medical care.

Included in this guide are some 50 preoperative and post-operative checklist and questions list to cover all the bases so you can have a smooth surgery!

This publication is full of information from my personal experience and years of professional insight.
