Celtic Tradition

Halloween is a Celtic tradition dating back 2,000 years ago.  Halloween was brought to our shores by Scottish and Irish immigrants in the 1800’s.  According to the folklore, spirits walked the Earth on Hallow’s Eve traveling to the hereafter along with sprites, fairies, demons and the like.  People would blacken their faces and dress as apparitions to avoid being possessed by the evil specters.  A ritual of leaving food and drink on the doorstep as an offering to the gods, may have been later translated into the trick-or-treat custom.  So, in my thoughts, why Halloween is better than Christmas.

Modern Halloween

Our modern Halloween rituals of pranks, party-going, and pageantry are unrecognizable to the origins of the Pagan holiday.  What remains true to the Halloween celebration today is the carefree attitude and impish atmosphere created by this spooky tradition.  The breezy nature of Halloween is one of the many reasons I prefer it over Christmas.  The following are several examples backing this claim.

IV.  Costumes

If you decide to partake in this frock-wearing fun, you can indulge your creative side and be someone scary, sexy, or silly.

5. just hanging out

You can hangout with your friends and relax rather than be obliged to family and extended-family with strained relations.

Why…

A-Halloween is fun!  You can participate or not and there is no pressure from family, no required decorations, or hours of cooking, shopping, and wrapping presents.

2.

You don’t have to exchange gifts or spend too much money and agonize if your gift will be well-received.

THREE…Halloween is much cheaper than Christmas. The Pagan tradition will set you back a small amount for costume, candy, and a little decoration. If you opt out of the costume, it is up to you and no one will care.

Six, mmm…

Savor sumptuous sweets and scary movies! Of course, you can do this any time of year, but it’s fun and festive to munch on spooky black cat cookies while watching a classic horror movie during Halloween.

& last, but not least

Everyone is welcome to participate, old and young, friends, family, and any religion or culture. Christmas is a Christian holiday that excludes other religions and primarily centers around family gatherings rather than friends or coworkers.

A happy, fun and safe Halloween to all…
